🇮🇳 Sikhs in India

📜 Historical Roots

Sikhism originated in Punjab in the 15th century with Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings. Over centuries, India became home to the spiritual, political, and cultural evolution of Sikhs — from the formation of the Khalsa to fight against Mughals and the establishment of the Sikh Empire.

Gurudwaras like the Golden Temple became iconic centers of faith, service, and resilience. Sikh contributions to India's independence, defense forces, agriculture, and industries reflect a legacy of courage, community, and compassion that continues to shape the nation's identity and inspire global Sikh communities today.

🌍 Migration within India

Partition in 1947 forced a massive migration of Sikhs from Pakistan to Indian Punjab and other parts of India. Today, major Sikh populations live not only in Punjab but also in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
